Churches in the Face of Political and Social Transition/Kirchen und der politisch-gesellschaftliche Wandel

m Mittelpunkt der Monographie steht eine Reihe von zwischenkirchlichen Konsultationen, die sog. Serbien-Tagungen, die unter Beteiligung der Evangelischen Kirche in Deutschland, der Deutschen Bischofskonferenz und der Serbischen Orthodoxen Kirche von 1999 bis 2009 stattfanden. Ziel der evangelisch-katholisch-orthodoxen ökumenischen Begegnungen war, Serbiens Demokratisierungsprozess und europäische Integration zu unterstützen. An insgesamt neun Tagungen diskutierten die Delegierten der beteiligten Kirchen, Politiker, Vertreter der Zivilgesellschaft sowie Wissenschaftler die Rolle der Kirchen und der Religion in den beiden Ländern. Themen wie das Verhältnis zwischen Kirche und Staat, die Rolle der Kirchen in einer säkularisierten Gesellschaft, Serbiens Beziehungen zum Rest von Europa, und Versöhnung wurden angesprochen. Die Analyse des Inhalts und der Ergebnisse der Konsultationen innerhalb des breiteren ökumenischen, sozialen und politischen Kontexts, in dem sie stattgefunden haben, ist durch Interviews mit ihren Initiatoren und Organisatoren ergänzt.This book centers on a series of interchurch consultations that took place between the Evangelical Church in Germany, the Roman Catholic German Bishops' Conference and the Serbian Orthodox Church from 1999 through 2009. The Protestant-Catholic-Orthodox ecumenical encounters aimed to support Serbia's democratization and European integration. At a total of nine meetings, delegates from the participating churches, politicians, representatives of non-governmental organizations and scholars from various fields discussed the role of churches and religion in the two countries. They addressed topics such as church and state relations in Serbia, the role of churches in secularized society, Serbia's relationship to the rest of Europe, and reconciliation. Focusing on the content and outcomes of the consultations, the author places them into the broader ecumenical, social and political context in which they took place, augmented by in-depth interviews with key initiators and organizers.
