Wohllebens Waldführer
This nature guide is quite different from traditional, "watered-down" forest guides. The author, who is well known from radio and television, and who has been labelled as something of a rebel by his conservative colleagues, views animals and plants not merely as individual species, but also as parts of an organic whole, involving the overarching functions of the forest. What does the presence of a particular animal species indicate? What does it mean if this animal species is absent? What do particular plants indicate to us? What can be done to better protect the forest and its inhabitants? This book provides the answers to these and many other questions, whereby the author has also seen fit to include a criticism of unfortunate trends in forest use to date. Peter Wohlleben studied forestry at the Rottenburg University of Applied Sciences, and after 23 years quit his job as an official with the Rhineland-Palatinate State Ministry of Forestry in order to realise his vision of ecological forest management in the municipality of Hümmel in Germany's Eifel region.
